Kazakstan Travelogue: Episode 2
September 9, 2007I had a very relaxing day. My host, Elmira, who works at the US Embassy, and her good friend, Olga, who is the head of the Information Consortium of Kazakhstani Libraries (ICKL), took me up ‘the hill’.
We had a very nice time walking through the nicely laid out and very kid- and tourist-friendly area at the top of the ‘finicular’, which included a great playground, a small zoo, a mountain slide and of course good food and drink in very comfortable outdoor bistros.
I also shot a little video of the outlook:
The ‘work’ of the day involved planning for a grant proposal that will partner Pitt’s LIS program with the library consortium to bring better access to scientific databases to the libraries of Kazakhstan. Olga and Elmira were deep in thought about how best to compete for the grant and sustain the partnership.
Meanwhile, spent some time with the Fab Four.
